We love linen - Mamalamadesign - Creative Moms *Anzeige

Ein Material, das mich auf Anhieb in seinen Bann gezogen hat, ist Leinen. Es verleiht jedem Kleidungsstück einen natürlichen Look und steht für mich ganz klar für Nachhaltigkeit und angenehmen Tragekomfort auch an heißen Sommertagen. Ich habe die Vorzüge von Leinen für die Sommersaison für mich und auch die Kinder erkannt, und während dieser Trend auch nicht bei den großen, kommerziellen Handelsketten Halt macht, bin ich immer auf der Suche nach einer kleinen aber feinen Alternative. Nämlich denjenigen, die abseits des kommerziellen Handels agieren und in liebevoller Handarbeit an ihren eigenen Kreationen Hand anlegen und in Eigenregie Designs erschaffen: den Kleinproduzenten und den Mompreneurs, die ihre Kreativität neben Haushalt und Kindern in der Mutterschaft zum Ausdruck bringen. All ihnen ist mein neues Format Creative Moms gewidmet.

 Auf meiner Suche nach einem Leinenkleid für das Fräulein bin ich bei Giedre von Mamalamadesign und ihren wundervollen Kleider gelandet. Sie ist selbst Mutter von 3 Kindern, lebt in Litauen und widmet sich mit Hingabe und Leidenschaft fürs Nähen der Herstellung von Kinderkleidung. Modell stehen hierfür ihre eigenen Kinder. und ich finde, sie leistet bravouröse Arbeit darin! Das Besondere an dem Leinenkleid, das ihr übrigens mit dem Code titantina um 20% reduziert in Auftrag geben könnt, ist, dass es auf beiden Seiten, sowohl als blaues als auch als altrosa Kleid getragen werden kann, denn es ist reversibel.

Ein weiteres großes Plus: es ist zeitlos und passt einfach immer, egal, ob es sich um einen gewöhnlichen Sommertag, einen besonderen Anlass oder eine Feier handelt. Es lässt sich wunderbar und simpel mit Accessoires kombinieren und ist einfach in der Handhabung. Mir gefällt die schlichte Variante am besten. So kommt das Kind zu Geltung, und es lenkt nicht durch schrille bunte Muster ab. Ich mag eben beides, schlicht und dann auch wieder mal bunt.

Da ich in meiner Reihe "Creative Moms" gerne einen Blick hinter ein Label werfe, und mich der Mensch hinter dem Label und seine Motivation hinter der Leidenschaft für kreatives Schaffen interessiert (by the way, habt ihr schon mein Podcast mit Frieda Frei gehört?), habe ich mit Giedre, der Schöpferin von Mamalamadesign, ein Interview geführt. Darin erklärt sie, warum Litauen einen derart speziellen Bezug zu Leinen hat, warum gerade Leinen für Slow fashion steht, und wie sie ihr Hobby zum Beruf machte.

Giedre, besides of creating beautiful handmade kids clothes you're a mom to 3 kids. How do you manage keeping up with both -being a mom with all it's duties and responsabilities and working as a seamstress. 

I am a mother of two girls and a boy, but my kids clothes brand is like a 4th baby at the moment, which requires even more time than all 3 kids together, especially that I’m doing all the work alone. And the truth is that it's really hard to manage motherhood duties and work then working on your own. Sometimes I even feel like giving up  but the happy costumers and my family are the forces  what strengthens me and  makes me move on and on again. 

You are from Lithuania. Do Lithuanians have  a special sewing tradition or is there a tendency of using special fabrics? 

I'm not sure if Lithuanians have any special sewing tradition, but talking about fabrics, particularly linen is the true ancient Lithuanian fabric. Our forefathers were growing flax and making linen fabric by themselves. Still have the authentic linen fabric woven by my grandmother.  

What are your favourite fabris to work with and why? 

Linen is also my favorite fabric. And not only because it is easy to work with. I love linen clothes myself. Linen has many great features, it is anti-allergic, it absorbs well, dries quickly, it’s irreplaceable in summertime, because it cools, and in wintertime because its warms up. It’s really longlasting and becomes softer and nicer every time you wash it, so when I’m thinking about slow fashion linen perfectly reflects the essence of it. It’s very universal and could be perfect choice for occasional outfit as well as for casual every day wear.  

4. Most creative moms I met claimed that motherhood somehow aroused their creativity in many different ways. When did you start your sewing carreer? 

As I can see now probably motherhood was that thing what brought me to sewing. Indeed, attempts to sew were already in my childhood, since both my grandparents use to sew and my aunt still works as a seamstress.  Later on when I was a teenager I used to make clothes for myself, but more episodically, I’ve never thought it could be my future profession.  

I have studied philology at university, then did my master degree in lows, used to work as a personalmanager at a big company. But when I became mum for the first time, I realized I do not want to do this work anymore. The feeling was even more intense when my second daughter was born. I started to look for something where I could express my creativity, and sewing was a hobby I could be myself making things I love to. 

So sewing was next to me all my life. But after my third child was born, I finally decided to deepen my knowledges by studying it in order to turn my hobby into business. And now if I’ll have time, studies of fashion and clothes construction are next on my list. I wish I could have more time for everything. Probably that’s the biggest wish of all working mothers. 

Where do you get your inspiration from? 

It's so many different things that inspire me. it could be the child splashing in a puddle, a walk in sunny meadows in a small village or crowded streets of the city. We are surrounded by so many beautiful things you just need to open our eyes and hearts to see them.   

Sometimes I see the fabric and already know what I’m going to sew of it. But it happens also that I find gorgeous material and it waits for long time until the ideas comes to my head. 

What was your favorite item you ever made? 

I do not have one favorite, but there are some dresses that are very special for me and I always love to sew them. The  reversible linen dress is one of them. 

Colorful or monochrome? 

colorful, I love pastels, natural colors, they help to get closer to nature, remind us that we are part of it, but sometimes I miss the bright colors as well. 

What is your dream for the future concerning your business?  

Of course I dream I could have more time for all the ideas in my head to become real. But in general my biggest dream is to do the work I love, and if it makes someone else's world just a bit more beautiful it’s a huge reward to me.
